Landim Monastery Despite some doubts as to the precise date, the primitive Monasterio of Nandim was founded between 1110 and 1128 by D. Gonçalo Rodrigues da Palmeira. Some vestiges of its Romanic origins still remain, such as the chapiters and blind arches in the church’s chapel. It was renovated in the 13th century and strongly remodelled in the 16th century, through a Mannerist reconstruction that is visible in the church façade and in the edification of the tower and collateral nave. Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, the interior decoration underwent successive interventions, which resulted in the abundant use of tiles and the acquisition of a musical organ that embellishes the church. To the south of the monastery, we still find the park and the fence, which extend over a considerable area. |
