Viana do Castelo Littoral Geopark

This Geopark integrates 13 natural monuments, through which it is possible to understand the evolution of the landscape since 540 million years ago. The Montedor Cliff (Carreço), the estuary of the Lima river, the Cascades of the Poço Negro (Areosa) and the Ferida Má in the Ancora river (between Montaria and Amonde) or the Granite Plateau of the Santa Luzia Hills are some of the sites that integrate this area. The Geopark, whose main principles are conservation of nature, tourism and the dynamism of schools, has already won the 2016 Geoconservation Prize awarded by the Portuguese group ProGEO, the European Association for the Conservation of Geological Heritage.
