Camilo Castelo Branco House Museum
In 1863, Camilo Castelo Branco moved into in the parish of S. Miguel de Ceide, where he lived most of the time. It was in Vila Nova de Famalicão that he wrote most of his books and where, on June 1st 1890, he committed suicide. After a fire in 1915, the house was rebuilt and transformed into the “Camiliano Museum” in 1922, a name that was changed to “Camilo Castelo Branco House Museum” in 1958. Inside, an interesting collection of furniture and personal items, paintings and sculptures, and mainly literature – the author’s work, newspaper articles and periodicals that Camilo cooperated with or directed, can be observed. Besides the permanent exhibition, this museum offers visitors a documentation centre, a library and educational services. In a city full of museums and cultural spots, this place stands out due to its strong ties with one of the most important figures of our national literature and was attributed the Best Museum Award 2006, by APOM (Portuguese Museology Association). A home to discover.
