The City

In the midst of a very summery atmosphere, the sun and the breeze felt in Esposende, allied to its blue flag beaches, are always an invitation you cannot refuse. Appointed city and capital of the municipal district in 1993, Esposende is a fertile and privileged region that has been growing in life and interest. Today it has solidly affirmed its attractiveness in the panorama of national tourist itineraries. A city of multiple charms, where faith and joy walk hand in hand, Esposende is the stage of several religious and popular manifestations, such as Holy Week, the Festivities in honour of Nossa Senhora da Saúde – City Festivities – and S. João, that because of its grandness, attracts countless visitors every year. The heart of the city has always been inviting due to its proximity with the sea and because of all the riches it presents on land – in this case, a patrimonial legacy that deserves to be discovered – but today it is better than ever. The requalification of the riverfront livened up and created a new City centre, with the integration of green spaces and restaurants, a bike lane that stretches along the marginal, a walkway over the right bank of the river, and last but not least, pedestrian areas and a new and attractive street furniture shaded by many trees.
