“Solar do Alvarinho”

It has been a long time since Alvarinho – a white wine, of singular characteristics, fruity flavour and aroma, and an alcoholic content close to 13 degrees – has surpassed the sub-region of Monção-Melgaço’s and even the country’s borders. The cultivation of this genuine nectar of the gods depends on important and specific climatic and soil conditions, where there are dozens brands of Alvarinho to choose from and taste. And you can begin doing just that in the pleasant “Solar do Alvarinho”, the mother house of the Alvarinho Route, a place that has the best wines, smoked ham and sausages, honey, maize bread, handcraft, as well as other regional products to buy and take home. Another event that should be referred is the Festival of the Alvarinho (the wine) and Smokery taking place in April, in which the Alvarinho winemakers and the smoked sausages producers of the county gather to display their products. This event was recognized of great interest for Tourism, by the authorities of “Turismo de Portugal”.
