Edified Heritage

 

“O Basto” Warrior Statue: granite statue, situated on the República Square, represents a lusitanian warrior and the figure of Hermígio Romarigues who defended the Refojos Monastery. Also on the same square, the Casa da Cultura (House of Culture). Refoios Monastery: the IIP classification refers to the church, sacristy, and the ceiling of the court’s hearing room. It was founded in the 12th century and remodelled during the 17th century. Cabeceiras de Basto Pillory: an important monument from the manueline period, located on the República Square. Casa da Música (House of Music): also known as the “Casa da Cadeia” (Jailhouse), it is a 16th century building. All are situated in Refojos de Basto.

 

Romanesque Cavêz Bridge, over the Tâmega River: MN, medieval structure from the 13th century, of great historical and artistic importance, in Cavêz. In the same parish, the Bridge over the Moimenta River: IIP, medieval construction of simple architecture. Arco de Baúlhe Bridge: IIP, also known as Old Bridge, it is a 16th century construction, in Arco de Baúlhe. Abadim Pillory: IIP, in Abadim. Alvite Tower House: built during the Middle Ages, it was remodelled during the 18th century construction; it is constituted by a chapel, tower and armorial gate. Located in Alvite. Breia Manor House (IIP, 15th century) and Forno Manor House (its origin dates back to the 16th century and it is composed by edified walls, gardens and agricultural fields). Both can be found in the parish of de Basto.
