The mountain’s green, the earth’s brown, the sky and the water’s blue – these are the colours of a region blessed by Mother Nature. A symbiosis easily recognized when a visitor discovers some of the many classified sites in this region, namely:

- the National Park of Peneda-Gerês (Melgaço, Arcos de Valdevez, Ponte da Barca and Terra de Bouro) is the only National Park in the country and includes the mountains of Gerês, Amarela, Soajo and Peneda;

- the North Coast Natural Park (Esposende) values  the beach, the sand-dune systems and the Cávado river estuary;

- the Protected Landscape Areas of the Corno de Bico (Paredes de Coura) and the Bertiandos and S. Pedro de Arcos Ponds (Ponte de Lima) are small shrines were fauna and flora present unique species, embedded in an environment of rare beauty.
